What Is Horizon Zero Dawn?
Horizon Zero Dawn is a third-person, action role-playing game that was originally released as a game exclusive to the PS4 in February 2017.
The plot follows a female protagonist - Aloy - a hunter in a post-apocalyptic land overrun by giant robotic creatures/machines, who sets out to uncover her past.
In this world, humans have reverted to tribal societies after the robot dinosaurs went rabid. Okaaaayyyyy. Aloy is a hunter living at the edges of society but quickly becomes the center of intra-tribal politics as each tribe searches for a solution to the aggressive robodinos.
As Aloy, you use ranged weapons, a spear, explosives and stealth to combat these mechanical creatures and other enemy forces.
She can also dodge, sprint, slide, or roll to evade her enemies' advances. Hiding in foliage to ambush nearby enemies can ensure immediate takedowns as well. Parkour and swimming also feature in the game.
A skill tree provides you with new abilities and bonuses.
This is an open-world game so you can explore and discover locations and take on side quests.
The map is composed of forest, jungle, desert, and snowy mountain regions.
Side quests involve Aloy completing tasks, like gathering materials, coming to the aid of individuals in danger of being killed, solving mysteries, assuming control of bandit camps, eliminating criminals and more difficult machines, accomplishing various challenges at any of the five Hunting Grounds, and obtaining an ancient armour that makes Aloy almost impervious to damage.
Were There Any DLCs?
A single DLC called The Frozen Wilds was released for the game in November, 2017.
This expansion brings Aloy to the Cut, a region on the border of Banuk territory accessible via a mountain pass just north of the Grave-Hoard. While the gameplay is accessible any time after leaving the Embrace during the main quest A Seeker at the Gates, the add-on's content is balanced around a player that is level 30 or higher.
The Complete Edition, which contains the base game, The Frozen Wilds, and all additional downloadable content (DLC), was released on 5 December 2017.
And now the game has been ported over to PCs and the Windows operating system.
